Portend is a financial due diligence platform giving lenders and investors real-time credit risk insights. Serious data, for a financially literate audience, from a company nobody had heard of yet.

That is a brutal starting position. The people Portend serves make careful decisions for a living, and they do not hand credit risk work to something that feels unproven. Investors were watching too, so the MVP had to be credible enough to raise on, not just functional enough to demo.

We took on the whole picture as one system: the brand, the marketing site, and the product itself.

The brand carried the hardest brief. It had to feel secure and trustworthy, because trust is the entire product in due diligence, but chasing trustworthy is how financial brands fall into the corporate abyss: safe, beige, and forgotten the moment the tab closes. We built an identity with the authority of an institution and the sharpness of a startup, so Portend read as credible and memorable in the same glance.

On product, we designed the dashboard and internal tools around one principle: surface the key signals fast, without drowning users in the data behind them. Complex credit risk information, delivered at scanning speed, for people who read numbers all day and have no patience for decoration.

The marketing site translated all of that into positioning, and underneath it we built a scalable component system with the engineering team, so handover was frictionless and the product could ship at startup speed without the design drifting.

The MVP landed exactly as intended. The startup test group's reception was strongly positive, early engagement validated the product's value, and the polished platform gave the founders real credibility in every room.

Then came the strongest validation a product can get: Portend attracted acquisition interest from a client with an overlapping business model, and was acquired shortly after launch. The brand, site and platform we built did not just win users. They made the company worth buying.
